I wouldn’t normally bother rating a book I didn’t finish, but I got through half of The Flame and the Flower before giving up, so I have some pretty strong opinions and plenty to say. He never redeemed himself for what he did to her in any way and I have no idea why they fell in love. I won’t presume to tell an author how to write, but I didn’t really care for the soft-shoeing here. It invokes a period feel that I really immersed myself in.
Now, how to ewoodiwiss why this book is, at least to me, wrong on so many levels? And almost every man wants her, read rape her.

If this had not been a factor, I can honestly say that I would have really enjoyed it and probably could have kathlen it on my keeper list.
