Do they shadosfell mention how old he is? At first her young age threw me off and younger voice was a bit different than I was used to but I warmed up to her in no time. As for Alban, Marillier really created a magical and fascinating country. As a young dragonlord, Ged, whose use-name is Sparrowhawk, is sent to the island of Roke to learn the true way of magic. Maybe I can trust him.
She is a truly magnificent MC and one I am very excited to follow as her story continues.
Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier
Strong characters, fascinating world, and beautifully developed storyline. My second major nit-pick was the main character, Neryn.

Our MC, Neryn, is not shadowflel ballsy smart mouthed girl that I am normally drawn to, her soft spoken and thoughtful manner wars with my normally sharp tongue and no holds bar personality and I’m sure if we met in real life it might be a rocky start to a friendship.

And, funnily enough, compared to other similar books of this genre, the book wasn’t even particularly action-packed or fast-moving, so it wasn’t that that had me flipping the pages. In a lifetime of reading and study, Marillier has steeped herself in myth, legend and folklore, and her intuitive knowledge of the marillierr and motifs of storytelling underpin the whole novel.
I was expecting this to be a sure thing. The basic plot is that Neryn’s drunk father gambles her away to a stranger at the start of the story.

Once I established what the book was about, I found myself liking it quite a bit – though not as much as I like similar types of books. This book was filled to the brim with magic and I loved every bit of it. I LOVE him ,” type of character growth. Most trilogies I find the first book is good, but the magic starts to wane in the subsequent volumes, however these books just continued to grow.

Still, I think the story has a lot of potential, and maybe it just needs more explaining – or perhaps a smarter or more imaginative reader. Julieg of my julie books of all time is a book by Marillier Wildwood Dancingand I’ve very much enjoyed several of her adult fantasy series as well.
Refresh and try again. On the bright side, I was very productive blog-wise. The prose doesn’t seem overt or in-your-face, but it’s so perfect at being what it needs to be that you just flow over the words and are swept along. On to book 2! And, sometimes those are the best of timesI get the chance to come across a book introducing me to a male character like Flint.
