It introduces a lot of basic strategic concepts along the way but also shows neat tactical aspects to the game, both those played as well as the unplayed ones that guided the game. Irving Chernev: Logical Chess

This is such a good book. While this is a great book, there cgernev some areas where it is showing its age having first been issued nearly a half century ago.

I love this book. The author does a great job of connecting with the reader – one feels that they really are inside the head of the players and that Chernev is explaining what they were thinking while deciding upon their moves.


I have grouped the double king pawn open games first, the single king pawn semi-open games second, the double queen pawn closed games third, and the Indian defenses last. I say that as a beginner myself.
